Computing

While you are learning from home, I have created a new home learning challenge for you all! Find your year group and read what you need to do. When you have completed your task you can email your final result to office@hvj.org.uk. When I receive some I will add them to this page.

Year 3

I would like you to spend some time researching what computing was like when your parents were your age! Speak to them; find out what it was like to not have Wi-Fi or iPads! Use the internet and your research skills to discover the differences between computing for them and computing for you.

Once you have done this, I would like you to present your research as a ‘Now and Then’ task. You can present it in any way you choose, an animation, a film, a poster or a PowerPoint presentation.

Year 4

For your challenge, I would like you to use your research skills to find out about the history of computing. When was the first mechanical computer thought of and by who? When did Apple release the iPad? How long has the internet been around?

Once you have done this, I would like you to present your research as a timeline. You can present it in any way you choose, an animation, a film, a poster or a PowerPoint presentation.

Year 5 & 6

I would like you to spend some time using your research skills to find out about an influential figure within the Computing world. There are many to choose from such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs or even Charles Babbage who first came up with the idea of a mechanical computer in 1791!

Once you have carried out your research I would like you to present it in any way you choose, this could be an animation, a film, a poster or a PowerPoint presentation.
