Welcome to Year 4
In year 4 we have an exciting and important year! From learning about the Vikings to discovering what’s along our very own coast, we explore many different aspects of the curriculum. In Year 4 we have the opportunity to learn how to create our very own movies using green screen, as well as creating our own tourism app for the North East. Whilst all of this is fun, we also inject our core curriculum subjects with some of these exciting activities. From residential visits to skipping competitions this year will have something for everyone.
Year 4 are split across four register classes and are taught in maths sets on a morning. Teachers set homework weekly which is given on a Friday and expected to be brought back in by Tuesday of the following week. Spellings are set on Monday and tested on Friday. We expect reading books in school every day and to be changed at least once a week. We would appreciate your support in signing your child’s reading diary on a regular basis.
In Year 4 we expect the children to work hard, but in return they will be rewarded with many experiences that can be taken with them throughout their school life.

What have we been up to?
On Monday 11th February, Martin, a representative from the RNLI, came into school to talk to us about keeping safe by the sea.
On the 22nd and 23rd of January all of Year 4 took part in a Maths Investigation. We had to use 1 cube and then 2 cubes followed by 3 cubes and look at all of the different ways that we could rearrange them. We made predictions about the number of faces that we would be able to see when we arranged them in different ways. It was quite tricky but we really enjoyed what we were doing.
In Year 4 art, we have been discovering the different gradients of sketching pencils and using this knowledge to sketch and create a range of textures! We have tried very hard to improve our drawing techniques and are now starting to carefully consider which sketching pencil to use during our lessons.
PE - Rugby
In year 4, we have taken part in a PE lesson delivered by a professional rugby coach! We learned about the different skills involved in a rugby game such as how to score and how to pass the ball correctly. The session allowed us to practise these different skills and take part in a game of tag rugby too.
